I just had the most amazing, rewarding Christmas in my life. 13 days in Thailand, volunteering at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai. I was able to care for the elephants rescued from the tourism and logging industry, and spend time in a beautiful land with warm people. We learned about the brutality that elephants have to endure to ‘break them’, just so humans can ride on their backs. Working with elephants who had broken pelvises, were blinded by knives, or suffering severe psychological trauma just because of the tourism industry was heartbreaking. I can’t wait to return…
